I have self-developed my own tool from scratch from the ground up and it does a very good job of archiving Personal & Community Journals. It saves local copies of the journals on a user's computer and creates an inventory of what was archived. vidder.gumroad.com/l/ljarchivr

Report from someone who very recently successfully used BlogBooker on their LJ!

bsky.app/profile/cass...
I used BlogBooker just a few weeks ago (on some sort of prophetic impulse, I suppose), and it worked like a charm. I did pay for it so that I could get the unlimited downloads, and it was totally worth it considering I have nearly 9000 pages covering 14 years of my life.
Okay, I will preface this with the GIGANTIC disclaimer that I promise I know how this looks, and I *swear* this is not personally motivated: If you have an old #LiveJournal account, and it has things you still care about in it, download it or import it to Dreamwidth SOON. Details:

I do not, to my very great sorrow, think LJ will survive in anything resembling even its "hollowed-out shell of what it used to be" current form for much longer. And I hate what it's become, but I'll cry when it dies, because it shaped SO MUCH of my life.

But if you don't trust my motivations, use one of the other methods to save your own stuff, and in either case, use the Wayback Machine to archive any other people's entries you really care about (fanfic, posts from friends who have passed away, posts in communities with inactive maintainers, etc).

(Which we are very happy to do! I am a preservationist and I care about helping people keep their stuff safe; the cost to us to store it is negligible and we're happy to provide it.) Caution, the importer may be a little busy right now :) dw-maintenance.dreamwidth.org/97897.html

3. A third party script such as ljbook, ljarchive. pl, or jbackup. pl (spaces inserted to avoid autolinking, because the .pl is a file extension meaning "Perl program", not a domain extension)

4. Third party formatting services, which have mostly shut down to the best of my knowledge

1. The on-site month by month export as described in this FAQ: www.livejournal.com/support/faq/...

2. If you still have the Semagic client downloaded (or can find wherever the current version is; I don't know it offhand), it can download everything for you.

You can also import LJ communities to DW communities if you're the maintainer (not a moderator) of the source community on LiveJournal and the admin (not a moderator) of the target community on DW.

And the one that makes this an ethically fraught warning for me to be issuing but that I know for sure works: my website, dreamwidth.org, has an on-site import tool to grab everything but your Scrapbook photos (which can't be accessed with the download API, sigh): www.dreamwidth.org/tools/importer

If there is anything you still care about hosted on LJ -- posts, links, icons, photos, anything -- and you don't have a backup, get that backup ASAP. I have not stayed current on ways to back up. The ones I used to know of:

I am very, very conscious of how it looks for me to be saying this, because I own and operate a direct competitor to LJ, but: I strongly suspect, from all these signals, that Sberbank is preparing to either sell the outside-Russia part of LJ if they can find a buyer, or shut it down if they can't.

That’s what these ‘debates’ are really about: framing old fashioned oppression as some kind of high-brow concern for women’s happiness.

You know what makes us happy? Bank accounts. Voting rights. The ability to leave a bad marriage and not have a miscarriage kill us.

That’s why conservatives are pouring millions intro trad-wife bullshit and birth control disinformation. They need young women to believe the erosion of their rights is a good thing, actually!

It’s not enough to oppress women—they want us ^grateful* for it. (We’re so much prettier when we smile.)

Across the country, women are dying of sepsis, losing organs, being arrested for miscarriages, and used as brain-dead incubators.

Corpses have more rights than women living under abortion bans.

What better moment to run a full court cultural press about how freedom isn’t that great anyway?
