I look at a lot of extant animals in similar niches for inspiration. I mix, match, and adjust them to better suit what I am working on. Otherwise after I pick a pallet I like to go in on a base layer and block in possible patterns until I find something I am happy with

Also, probably not something everyone knows, but the Solnhofen Archipelago isn't one homogeneous site. its several formations that stretch across Bavaria. We decided to focus on Altmühltal or the Solnhofen limestone in the strict sense, but Mörnsheim, Painten, and Torleite have amazing fauna too.

In a perfect world, we could spend years working on these sites, but sadly I doubt we have the energy and juice creatively to do every single amazing locality. I highly encourage other members of the community to make your own pieces for sites that interest y'all. 2/2
