昨夜、アデロールの作用のうちに、The Velvet Underground & Nico - I'll Be Your Mirrorの歌詞を日本語で書き換えました私。「書き換え」と言って、「翻訳」ということを作るつもりじゃなかったから。特に、拍子に合えるように、意味を少し変わるもいいと思いました(しかし、「気持ち」を変わることを避けるように頑張りました)。また、残した英語セリフは格好いい存在感がありますね(笑)

I've hurt so many people and I wish I could give them a hug and I wish that hug would heal them. But I know I can't and I know it won't. I hope time would do for them what I could never. I hope what traces of me are shorn down and they would shuck me aside and be happy. And I hope I could be for those I know now and will know later what time is to those I hurt, a healing thing, a matter of perfect moving stilllness-joy.

One must finally identify Love with that peculiar force which drives life itself -- Energy -- that force which enabled, billions of years ago, those scaffolds of clay to beget the first autopoietic machines, which necessitated their coming-into-being and which necessitated their going-out-to-nothing. We are here because of Love and we will go away for the sake of Love. I want to savor it until I am waysided unto perfect irrelevance, to go out kissing a hopeful future. I want to let such loving rapture envelop us all and this rapture detests that which stifles the song of those whose love is jackbooted-silent. I want these things and I know Love will grant me as such: for I am aligned with that which moves us all. Whatever the timespan, whether I live to see it, of this I'm sure: Love will structure human life. I just hope I see it before Love's constraints take me elsewhere.

I say the last point because I'm committed to immersion (or more accurately, comprehensible-input) based learning from my experiences with JP (and for that matter, doing stuff in the language is the whole point after all). One thing Latin has over all the others is the textbook Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata, which if nothing else is a masterclass in pedagogy; you could learn everything you'd ever need to know on the art of teaching just by analyzing how that book is structured. I wish every language had an equivalent to it

1. despite my regret, i would definitely rather what i did over not doing anything at all
2. i honestly prefer dramas and it pisses me off to no end how hard they are to find. there's a private tracker i know of but that's not an option for me since i go without internet for days at a time
as far as listening comprehension goes i kinda avoided that in favor of reading until recently (since w reading i could go at my own pace). i regret that tho i shouldve been getting mostly listening from the beginning tbh. my trick is watching nothing-shows where i don't mind losing the plot (or watching shows ive already seen so i actually do know the plot (though shows that ive both watched AND have simple enough dialogue to follow are pretty scarce lol))

im going to get a job and it's going to wreck my nervous system more and make me worse and then im gonna have to let everything decay until i have to get a job again and wreck my nervous system again and make myself even worse and this cycle is impossible to break because the only way to break it is to summon more energy than i ever possibly can. im destined to be a miserable loser and im gonna have to make my peace with that and get by as one until possibly maybe my environment is changed from without. i simply do not have it in me to will a better life in existence, any more than i have it in me to run a 3 minute mile. this sucks, man, but im nothing if not patient. im really really good at sitting around and not moving a muscle until something happens

Anyway, don’t worry about what you’re going to do. That’s not your job. Your job is to facilitate. You’re just a logistics officer, remember? Focus on creating and managing options. Don’t think in terms of the next 24 hours, think in terms of the first 3 feet. Because whatever is persistently, repeatedly appearing within 3 feet of your face (thoughts included)…that’s what your life is. You don’t really need to manage your time if you manage your personal space, because whatever’s in your personal space, the little country that is you, will automatically eat your time.

addendum. Of course, Beer's conception of freedom clarifies also the dynamic described here: the conservative family sees fit to enforce gender norms, hence it becomes a matter of paternal duty to restrict the autonomy of the child. Patriarchy structures the purpose of the family as perceived.
note: i put emphasis on "the *government's* job" there because a lot of normies that self-identify as conservative do think such things ought to be upheld. however, even amongst conservatives i think the most common normie view is that enforcement of gender norms should be informal, don't get the government involved. like i can't stop you from getting your hands on your hormones but that won't stop me from calling you a slur lol (or, more sinisterly: if you're my child, i *can* stop you from getting hormones, and the government can't make me let you have them if you're under my roof) ofc this More Sinister possibility is indeed how most repression of trans bodily autonomy plays out right now; and the biggest rhetorical tactic in the conservative playbook is to whine about specific cases in which parents *were* required to acquiesce to their child's transition (which is unfortunately rare)

This clarified a lot to me re: trans rights: conservative government sees as part of its purpose the enforcement of gender norms (patriarchy and cisheteronormativity). Then the curtailment of bodily autonomy of queer people is a forgone conclusion: it's necessary for their idea of social cohesion.
From within the enterprise, all these matters are relevant to viability; and they ought to be studied on site. But from outside the particular enterprise, and looking for the invariance that we expect to obtain in the cybernetics of any viable system, there is something more, and in fact much more, to say. This argument should be taken very carefully, both by me and by you, because of its explosive conclusion. It goes like this: (i) For the management unit, handling horizontal variety in the elemental operation is very difficult, since it has less variety than its own operation — which has less variety than its own environment in turn. It must design amplifiers and attenuators in order to regulate the double loop, if it is to meet the Three Principles of organization. (ii) Since the elemental operation is part of a whole, which is a cohesive system, its related elemental operations within System One intervene (in the vertical plane) in these horizontal variety equations. This intervention is a mark of the total cohesion, but it tends to vitiate elemental autonomy. (iii) If the metasystem, in its turn, intervenes in the interests of fairness, it is likely (on the whole) further to diminish the variety disposed by the management unit of each operation. Therefore The metasystem should make minimal use of variety attenuators in its dealings with management units in a downward direction. But this is difficult, since even ‘policies’ and ‘guidelines’ tend to be preceived from the other direction as massive constraints. This is the cybernetic argument for autonomy (or freedom), as distinct from the ethical, political, or psychological arguments. Unlike these others, it has no emotive content. It is basically mathematical. (iv) If minimal variety attenuation is desirable, the question arises whether there need be any metasystemic intervention in elemental operations. The minimum is in principle zero. (v) However, if there were zero metasystemic intervention, elemental operations (in pursuit of their individual targets) would inevitably exhibit activities that were not consonant with each other — and which might be downright contradictory. Therefore The metasystem must make some intervention, and should make only that degree of intervention that is required to maintain cohesiveness in a viable system. For a viable system cannot disintegrate without losing its viability. (vi) Cohesiveness is however a function of the purpose of the system. Viable systems of concentrated purpose will be closely-knit, highly cohesive. Viable systems of general purpose will be more loosely coherent. (vii) But systemic purpose (as we saw) is a subjective phenomenon, rather than a property of the system independent of its instigators, participants, and observers. Thus the mathematical extent to which the metasystem will minimally vitiate elemental variety disposable, above zero subtraction, is determined within the total systems framework as earlier described. THEREFORE Freedom is in principle a computable function of systemic purpose as perceived. That is the explosive conclusion. It is explosive precisely because it sounds heartless, whereas the dear question of freedom is full of heart. The trouble seems to be that people do not like to believe that any matter of passion for them could possibly be bound by scientific rules, forgetting that the passion itself is limited by the scientific rules of their own physiological capability to endure it... In any case, the ‘heart’ comes firmly back into focus when we consider the conclusions ‘as perceived’ clause, in conjunction with item (vi) of the argument. For, if the systemic purpose is subjective, only agreement of the heart will justify a given level of cohesion in any institution. The committed member of a conservatory commune cannot accept the degree of cohesion exhibited by a multinational corporation; the committed member of a conservative community cannot accept the lack of cohesiveness exhibited by its own eccentric deviant. Both are misled to think that they are discussing ethics. Once the heartfelt committment is made, the rest is a cybernetically foregone conclusion. It may help to discuss item (vi) a little further. Suppose, for example, that a group agrees on a plan to rob a bank. Each member of this gang (an operational element) begins with his ordinary human autonomy — and even that has to be considered in the context of another level of recursion. But it is a condition of the commonly perceived purpose of the gang-system that this freedom must largely be sacrificed. Each element must do its own job exactly as agreed in advance, otherwise every element is in jeopardy, and the gangsystem’s viability is threatened. Therefore there is (a computable) massive intervention by the vertical domain in the variety disposed by the horizontal domain of management. If this group, on the other hand, set out to be an organization for loving others instead, massive intervention is not required. There are many ways of loving others, and all members get on with doing it. Even so, there is a minimal vertical intervention in individual freedom... Gaia skeptics tend to focus on the atmospheric/chemical aspects of the idea, but to me the more pressing matter is in volcanic/tectonic activity. the crust is too insulating for sunlight alone to provide enough energy to sustain those processes. the earth "eats" organic matter via sublimation. organic matter traps enormous amounts of solar energy; if such energy is released as the mantle takes it in, that provides a sort of metabolic pathway for the geosphere. in other words, if the weaker hypothesis that a geologically dead planet cannot sustain life is true, then the idea that sunlight alone cannot sustain geological activity indicates the early development of life is necessary for geological activity to continue. this would say that there's a sort of Golden Period where if life fails to develop to a point where Gaia-type synergisms occur, the planet is moribund, life never develops, and you wind up with a geologically dead, ever-cooling planet like Mars

also it's very easy to show that adding 1 is equivalent to applying the successor function [i.e. n + 1 = S(n)]. you do so by induction, first showing that this equivalence holds for 0 + 1: this is vacuously true, because S(0) := 1 and 0 + 1 := 1. now assume n + 1 = S(n). then S(n) + 1 := S(n + 1) = S(S(n)). this closes the induction
