Having a cold one has never been more expensive in Australia.
This week I’ll be moving an amendment to freeze beer excise indexation—because a schooner shouldn’t cost $11 in Melbourne when it’s $5 in Tokyo.

It’s hard to believe federal politicians think it’s fine to be members of a registered lobbying organisation sponsored by the peak body for gambling.
They’re like frogs in hot water.
I’ll be reintroducing my Clean Up Politics Act on our first day back.

The Albanese govt has put more than $1bn into urgent care clinics in the last 3 yrs.
It must find the money to support much-loved, longstanding community health centres providing care to vulnerable individuals at a fraction of the cost of a UCC visit.

Fun fact: Santos has paid $0 in corporate tax in the last 10y while selling $48bn of Australian gas.
Santos buys gas domestically and sells it overseas, increasing the price of Australian gas in our own market.
Our govt must reserve gas for our domestic industries and homes.

The gambling industry is predatory and insidious.
I quit the Parliamentary Sports Club a few weeks ago, when I discovered it had registered as a lobbyist group and was sponsored by the gambling peak body.
The industry will do anything to wield influence on pollies, and hates being called out.

Today I’m suggesting an amendment to the government’s proposed legislation for a Cente for Disease Control. I’m pushing the govt to include preventative health care- like considering the mental health impact of gambling harm- from its first day.

I’m Walking Towards Home to support Servants Housing in Kooyong.
Servants provides safe, affordable homes for vulnerable community members.
I’m walking 10ks/day for 10 days (my team assures me the treadmill counts!). The link to donate is in my bio — I’d love your support. 💙

Curing a child’s epilepsy is a remarkable, lifechanging achievement.
Wonderful to see Australian neurologists using AI for world-leading research.
Last year the Medical Research Future Fund turned down at least 1/2 the AI grants it reviewed.

Australia has an amazing opportunity to use its Medical Research Future Fund to immediately supercharge healthcare innovation - to develop new medicines, new therapies, new cures.
The economic and social potential for our country is huge.
The government could release billions of dollars today.

The airlines will stop cancelling and delaying flights only when we enforce penalties for them doing that for commercial reasons.
The govt needs to hold the airlines to account with a compensation scheme for avoidable delays and cancellations. It’s worked overseas, it would work here.

Australia’s medical research sector is world-leading.
It would be even better if we spent the billion of dollars we’ve put into the Medical Research Futures Fund over the last 10y on the healthcare improvements and innovation it’s earmarked for.
The money is there for that purpose. Let’s use it.

This week in Nature - the world’s most prestigious scientific journal - scientists defined the limits of what can be achieved with CCS. Even with the very best use of all available sites, its capacity to store carbon is very limited.

Another crossbench win today: 20,000 additional aged care packages secured - helping older Australians remain in their homes with the care and support they need.
I know how important this is for Kooyong - and I'm really happy to have secured more funding for aged care in our community.

Today I asked the Health Minister why he’s underspending from the Medical Research Future Fund, at a time when domestic funding is tight and the US has taken $368 million a year from our medical researchers.

Today marks the beginning of the Treasurer’s Economic Reform Roundtable.
In July I made a submission calling on the government to invest more in the healthcare sector. We have to stop treating health spending as a cost, and start seeing it as an investment in our future.

Australians can’t get best practice care for brain tumours. It’s been around for 30y, but proton therapy is not available in Australia.
The Vic govt abandoned plans for proton therapy at Peter Mac - the SA govt has failed to finish a facility.
