How do men live in the world that I love in and not realize that those who are different from them in sex are nonetheless very similar in reason, capacity, intellect, and emotion? The persistence of this delusion is staggering; how much will they inflict on us to hold onto it?

But it’s striking that nominally smart people are out here always asserting that “men and women are inherently different” and no one, least of all any men, seem inclined to bother asking if that’s really true.

Part of this is knee jerk chauvinism and the kind of passive, reflexive misogyny that we all imbibe, I guess; other parts of it are justified by a kind of “men are from mars” style pseudoscience and myths about “evolutionary psychology” or “gendered brains.”

Women who say things to the effect of “The feminist movement’s aim to achieve legal and social equality for women has been evil or misguided” are not in fact feminists, even if they declare themselves to be. They’re the opposite.
