I saw a DM do something like that as an alternative to a battle sequence in a campaign where the boss monster was a connoisseur who agreed to let the players pass if they could satisfy her appetite. There was less insult-slinging, though.

Tragically, there are curmudgeons with no sense of humor. There are also curmudgeons with a highly developed sense of humor. Both are overrepresented among Yiddish speakers, which is how you get the breakdown.
