the Metro tunnel stations don't even come close to arguably our most colourful station, but almost all of them are the very similar shades of grey etc

when I went on the ghan I didn't do the proper 3 hour hike, this was the easy option which was like 2 boat rides and a 10 minute climb over some rocky slopes..

the bureau of meteorology needs people to release weather balloons in Antarctica for 15 months at a time in case anyone needs a break from it all

There's so much more I could say, but today is only the beginning, and we've still got to wait until February for the proper timetable to start when the real benefits start coming.

But until then, it's so exciting to be able to see what's been taking place beneath our feet.

Today was the public's first chance to see Town Hall beyond the little peeks at City Square recently. At platform level it's almost identical to the other city station, State Library, but the City Square concourse and canopy are another thing entirely - and they DO keep out the rain

The stations are gorgeous, it was my first time getting to see Anzac Station beyond the tram stop, and it's such an interesting space that feels like it can move it a lot of people. Just a shame the beautiful wooden canopy doesn't block rain properly

I've been looking forward to this day for years, I was on the very first public train into the tunnel, and judging by the cheers as we entered the tunnel portal for the very first time, everyone else was just as excited as me.

Melbourne's Metro Tunnel opened today, a city shaping project that's been discussed for over 20 years and been under construction for the last 10 years. 5 brand new underground stations, and once February comes round, a complete transformation in how I and so many other people move around our city

for example, the northern loop tunnel (yellow one which is the only one accessible to every line in the north and western suburbs) has no connection to any of these lines

the viaduct allows for through running (and did so pre-loop) but you'd lose a huge easy walkable catchment for jobs in the CBD

both times are standing on the escalators and using the express platform 3/4 escalators, so you can shave off a decent amount of time by walking up/down them. the Melbourne Central video is too long to post but I timed from the Knox Place entrance to platform level.

no more sensory hell!
November 25, 2025 at 8:03 AM
the new State Library station entrance and concourse are now open, including the connection to Melbourne Central!

I've timed it and I'm delighted to report that it's only 2 mins and 35 secs from street to platform 3/4 at Melbourne Central this way vs. 3 mins 28 secs normally via Melbourne Central

Parkville is gorgeous and so capacious. great demonstration of how much natural light a cut and cover station can get.

only 6 more days to go 🥰

I'd like to express my gratitude to the Trans Tasman Travel Agreement for allowing the free and unrestricted movement of weather across the ditch today

to conclude: beautiful Melbourne city best city in da world can't wait to use the station for the first time next Sunday!

I've been walking past this construction site nearly daily for over 3 years and it's been occupying this site since 2018, mostly as a giant concrete shed.

now, we get a lovely bit of open space and public art just in time for summer, and a brand new cross-city train tunnel 🥰🥰

I also love the LED artwork interpretation of the fountain which used to be in City Square. it senses where people are and casts "shadows" on the "water". it's quite difficult to get videos of it without flickering, but it's a really nice subtle addition IRL. will probably break within 18 months

my favourite feature is the welcome to Wurundjeri Country engraved on the bluestone steps which form the side and rear walls of the station entrance. the steps work as seating, literally inviting you to sit with what it means to be on Country, even in the heart of the city

City Square returning and the new Town Hall station are going to be such fantastic additions to our city
November 22, 2025 at 3:46 AM
City Square's reopening event tomorrow, stations and services loaded into the journey planner, special timetable for the first services next Sunday out.

folks, we're almost there 🚄🥰
