Fittingly, I made this post right before #publicdomainday 2025. Hope it clarifies for people why there is an abridged edition with the cut Pottersville sequence and a "Charles Dickens" edition that replaces the entire original score. Note that Amazon didn't make any of them.

But at the same time, this doesn't detract from the film and I'd argue it's because the movie's character storytelling is coherent from start to finish. The how and why of the Smith vs. Neo fight might not add up but the fight itself is crucial on an emotional level. (4)

Or why do they need to 'bug' Neo at the beginning when they could just jump into his body when he meets with Morpheus? Or why do they sometimes seem completely oblivious to things (eg. Smith doesn't know about the building attack) but other times see through the eyes of the bluepills? (3)

Like, the Agents can move in and out of the bluepills or unplugged citizens in the system, both teleporting and regenerating. But that ability creates a LOT of holes and inconsistencies. Like, why do Agents use cars to get anywhere? Why not jump to Trinity's location at the start?
