What did you do with these if you had some? I kept people I knew and got rid of vacation photos and non-people shots unless I knew the location. You cannot keep it all #genealogy

Thoughts on the stuff I have in my #genealogy totes. Saving, digitizing, and the like. The text of the image is in our posting at genealogytipoftheday.com/index.php/20...

You can't save every card you ever received. I've digitized ones with #genealogy significance and kept few for sentimental reasons...including these two from my grandmothers.

Got these that aren't your family? Consider posting them to #findagrave, #familysearch big ol' tree, or other online trees as a way to preserve them. #genealogy

Wasn't expecting that. #genealogy

Been a long time since the bulk of my #genealogy notes were handwritten. But back in the day not all microfilm readers would print. Paper and pencil were what we used.

Need a picture of the school your ancestor attended? Do #genealogy societies, historical societies, local libraries and the like have graduation announcements or yearbooks? They may have them.

#genealogy is always about what you don't know--and sometimes we don't even know it.

Made those cookies from that recipe found in my Mother's things. Maybe we'll do a recipe book next! #genealogy

Do you have weather-related pictures in your #genealogy collection? This one is from Illinois in the 1970s.

Always thought that all the white boxes in the ThruLines at AncestryDNA came from my actual tree. Apparently the relationships do not. The white box people are in my tree, but I do not have Trientje H as the daughter of F Lichtsinn as shown here. Urgh. #genealogy

Sometimes you can draw a map for #genealogy purposes by hand. Not everything needs to be fancy schmancy or done with AI. This is for an upcoming issue of my Casefile Clues newsletter.

Do I need a fan from a funeral home where my ancestors attended funerals in mid-1900s? #genealogy

Not all #genealogy pictures have living things in them (ok...there are plants in this picture), but those pictures can still be helpful to preserving memories and for something to write about. This is putting up silage in the 1990s/early 2000s.

My newest ancestor, Laurenti(i) Trautvetter mentioned in his son's 1732 marriage record from Bad Salzungen, Germany. Love this handwriting. #genealogy

Pretty certain this last name in an 1870 census "Hapem" based on the other writing on the page. It's close to "Habben" which is the actual name and it's easy to see how in their low-German dialect this might have happened. Always transcribe as written--clues are there. #genealogy

Did you know that in the US 1880 mortality census, they were supposed to ask the doctor to confirm/deny the cause of death that the household provided for the deceased? #genealogy genealogytipoftheday.com/index.php/20...
