They are kind of niche, so she may not have them. They look like crochet hooks but are long like knitting needles. (But you use one hook, not two like needles.)

There's not much in terms of "new" with knitting and crochet. My thinking is that crafty folks are practical, and don't get themselves the fancy versions of things.
If you can tell me more about the kind of things she makes, I can recommend yarn.
