Florida Wonk. Not so deep state.
It's like the Buddha seeing sickness and death for the first time and realizing the nature of suffering but then, instead of meditating on that, just screaming "DEI did it".

Points to this study. (TL:DR, forced diversity led to the average competency of women to remain the same and the average competency of men to increase).

Gender quotas and the crisis of the mediocre man - LSE Business Review
A common criticism against gender quotas is that they are anathema to meritocratic principles. This research on Sweden shows that the opposite can be true: Quotas actually increased the competence of ...

I know zero about the military but I know a lot about Florida politics and Marco will waterboard Pete with a thousand tiny bottles of water before anything happens to the giant military complex in the middle of Tampa.

I met the man multiple times back when he was in the Florida Legislature and I did not fucking recognize him at all because this is what he looked like back then.

The actual Florida Capitol...that big tower. The museum is in that pretty one up front. If you look up any photos of the Capitol that is the one we show off. When January 6th was happening and my nephew was worried about me working in a State Capitol I explained that we have a decoy set up.

I will be honest, I originally thought that Amanda Chase was Heather Locklear's character on Melrose Place and the statement still made sense.

*This is a bad example. My brother actually makes twice as much as I do, but we are outliers in our work. He is exceptionally well compensated compared to the average and I'm exceptionally poorly compensated compared to the average because I work for state government.

I'm a good attorney who was a bad retail worker. My brother is a great retail worker who would be a terrible attorney (by his own acknowledgment). We both perform skilled labor and that should be represented in pay and treatment.*

Premise: Customer Service work is called unskilled labor and paid as such.
Premise: Performing kindness is a skill that is actually quite difficult.
Incorrect conclusion: Customer Service workers shouldn't have to perform kindness.

There has been a particularly weird movement couching anti-social behavior as being pro-worker. Like, yes, it is a form of emotional labor to require customer service workers to be nice to the customers and not everyone is able to perform such labor. Because it is SKILLED LABOR.

There is no way to be "naturally" beautiful at the levels that men expect. It's lighting and touch ups and filters and then all the stuff on top of that. You either gotta expand your definition of attractive to include more people or you gotta accept that expense as the cost of doing business.

You were attracted to a woman who had long blonde hair as a result of color and extension. She looks like a model because of makeup and skin care that costs a small fortune. Those long manicured nails were sexy when you met her. You love showing her off to your friends.

That cost money.

It doesn't even have to be a cold or flu, just that your body is producing more mucus because you are breathing in cold air all day and you feel like shit because you are probably slightly dehydrated and the sun sets at 4PM.

The secret battle in Florida for the last 10 years has been home rule vs. State centralized power. The entire fight over property taxes is just a proxy fight for home rule.

The Miami stuff is way more interesting for what it means for the intra-party Republican War between DeSantis and the Florida House than for the Dems. I think the best case the Dems can hope for is a shift in Florida politics to Crist/Putnam/Simpson type Republicans over DeSantis types.
