Republican senators Susan Collins from Maine and Lisa Murkowski from Alaska have objected, but other Republican lawmakers have not spoken out. "As a Republican myself, I would love to hear more from my team on this," said Sam Helmick, president of the American Library Association. Republicans on occasion have pushed the administration to release other frozen funding. Ten of the Senate's 53 Republicans successfully urged White House budget director Russ Vought in July to release $6 billion in education funds, while 14 Republicans pushed to release National Institute of Health research funding."

sad news from my home state, the place where I grew up learning how to ILL as many books about egyptology and dinosaurs and whatever my latest hyperfixation was that I could. I hope every library in south dakota puts up giant signs saying "TRUMP AND ELON HAVE TAKEN AWAY YOUR LIBRARY SERVICES"
A skeet from Dex Anderson (@dexanderson.com): Just got word from my college roommate - who is the state archivist for the state of South Dakota - that due to the DOGE shutdowns of IMLS, they can no longer fund InterLibrary Loan in SD. This means exchange between libraries, ability to get books delivered across the system, is gone as of 4/30.

Poster 22: LibParlor Online Learning : An open source curriculum for LIS researchers April 3, 2025 9:30 AM-10:15 AMCT Poster Exhibit Hall BC The presenters of this poster have created a free, flexible, and reflective curriculum that provides library workers with the foundational knowledge and specialized skills necessary to conduct and publish rigorous original research in an effort toward diversifying and improving LIS literature and promoting lifelong learning. LibParlor Online Learning (LPOL) aims to revolutionize continuing education for librarians by offering a robust curriculum that addresses current gaps in librarian education regarding research skills and scholarly communication through a flexible and regularly updated curriculum. This poster will present the mission and vision of LPOL, showcase key resources, and explore possible paths through the curriculum. Objective 1: Identify key resources available through the LPOL curriculum Objective 2: Articulate the ways LPOL could be utilized at their organization Objective 3: Explore possible paths for engaging with the curriculum depending on the goals and institutional context of the learner. Poster 11: Why Do Academic Librarians of Color Stay in the Profession? April 3, 2025 2:00 PM-2:45 PMCT Poster Exhibit Hall BC While there has been a steady increase in scholarship about why librarians of color leave the profession, there has been very little written about those who choose to stay. This research will ask librarians currently working in academic libraries in the United States “what factors have influenced you to stay in the LIS field thus far?” This poster will provide preliminary results from this study, invite academic librarians to share their own experiences, outline recommendations for library leaders, and offer solutions to improve the working conditions of academic librarians of color. Objective 1: Learn about the current factors that relate to recruitment and hiring, retention, workplace advancement, and turnover for librarians of color. Objective 2: Identify how demographic data in the field relates to patterns of professional commitment. Objective 3: Identify how to improve working conditions in the field to support and retain academic librarians of color.
