Must imagine that rumpriding a horse allows one a higher, better view of one's approaching foes. But one could easily fall backwards&off unless one has strong thighs and balance, which Roman soldiers did, since they rode all the time. No fatties there, like their modern counterparts in auto seats.

Guess Rumpriding is easier than Sidesaddling.
