In many decades of covering sports, I think last night was the first time I ever wrote "DONUTS?" in my notes at halftime. I was watching a basketball team that celebrates great defense with donuts, guided by coaches whom I have known and respected for a long time.

I'm declaring that unnecessary apostrophes have taken over as the most overused (and annoying) error in writing, taking the place of misusing your/you're.

Ex: How many goal's did the Jet's score?

Been pondering this since you posted. I get it but disagree. The school connection over break is good for many students. Teams can bond without school pressures. It's a window for fans who may not have time otherwise to see games. (I'm going to Tartan-Maple Grove today.)
