A game programmer for 20+ years, but my day job is fiber network design. Feel free to talk to me about anything. I am into game development, music, reading and politics. My current games are Factorio (Pyanodon's mod), Far Cry 4 & GemCraft Frostborn Wrath
I got the right message! #indiedev #smallmoments ...yeah, I'm going to bed now

I think, in those couple months you could have honed your skills to produce something reasonable.
You don't have to use the most realistic artwork to create a good game with it. Look at how they did it in the NES era. It wasn't great but it worked.
Here's some of my game's tileset.

Okay. One project I did... maybe 8 years ago, I made a trailer, for my bike. I can carry 8ft boards in my car just fine, but I needed to buy a ladder, which wouldn't fit. So I built a trailer that extends 8ft behind my bike

This has been shared before, but it's worth posting. Think of all the opportunities our country has missed, just because the rich people want to keep us trapped in this rat race

For anyone in the Louisville, KY area, there's a protest going on today #laprotest #iceraids
We should all stand with the people of LA

I finally have some #gamedev progress on moving dirt. A worker can fully empty out one tile, and fill in another. I haven't even started working on worker pathfinding up & down levels, though. There's still a ways to go with this

I made this, a few days ago. Yeah, they use fear to control people.

Like this. This is referencing Prince, from a video in 1996.

I had no idea this happened to Prince. It's sad.

My Settlers&Warlords game keeps growing. It's now to the point where it takes several minutes to unlock the buildings I'm working on.
It's now time to add a save mechanic. The game should save automatically, but right now I'll just be a save button. It's the only reliable way to test saving #gamedev

This might not look like much, but I can now craft Flint Shovels, which requires rope and long sticks to make. I had to create a means for players to specify where items go, for this to work.
Shovels mean I can start making ways to move dirt... and terraform the lands. That'll be exciting!

I made hamburgers tonight, with seasoned potato wedges (in an air fryer). It was great... but a lot of work. I want to find ways to make these processes easier, one way or another. #cooking
One challenge with potato wedges is to move them from a plate into the air fryer tray. A fork works well ->

You came in here saying half of the money to Ukraine was missing.
Don't come here trying to spread lies.
Besides, Ukraine is asking for weapons, not a cash flow

So, if I'm ever going to make anything of my Kingdom Come #gamedev idea, I gotta start somewhere. Sooo, here's a map!
I used a fantasy city name generator for the city names, but at least this is some forward progress for this

I was trying to find an image where the GOP voted down multiple bills meant to help us. It's probably somewhere. I found this one instead, where the bills did pass.
On one hand, the Dems are trying. But on the other, I agree with you - they're not doing enough.
After this past election ->

Making some progress in Settlers & Warlords #gamedev Workers can now pick up tools that have been made, and go collect bark for making twine. If I'm not careful, they keep venturing further until they're forgotten. I think it's time to make the actual player, so we can move around and view the world

Eureka! It is... a lean to! Your most basic shelter in Settlers & Warlords. Although its very flimsy, it can be set up anywhere that has trees (tree requirement hasn't been implemented yet) #gamedev

We have workers moving! And following a pathfinding route, too.
I still haven't handled up & down movement, but right now the map is still totally flat. I want to change that, but my coding skills aren't up to it. Would anyone be able to help?

Making steady progress on things now.
I feel like there's a lot of loose ends that I should wrap up before moving forward: player movement, additional map loading, even 3D terrain generation
But I gotta keep motivated in working on this, so I need a functional game. Those other things can come later

I haven't made much progress with Settlers & Warlords as of late, but do have items generating on the maps now.
But there's bugs in the code; only the first map chunk gets items. I'm not sure where to go for help, as this code base is complex

Been trying to motivate myself to work on this game; when there's no progress, progress is even harder. Well, I got workers placed on the map (yellow circles), and can now place down structures (red square). Next I need to get workers moving so they can actually do work

I had this idea rolling around in my head for a while, and then realized a poem would be a good fit for it. I think it needs some refinement, but is pretty good anyway. What do you think? #poetry

A screenshot of my game map... so far. I've decided to go 3D (after having & removing it) after all for zooming. Still got some work do to here; the bark textures are supposed to become leafy floors & with trees placed there. I feel like the lighting here is... off
At least its progress I can show!

I've been posting on #gamedev, but haven't shared what I'm working on. My current project is Settlers & Warlords. It's a mix of Factorio's factory building & Dwarf Fortress, on the web. It's not playable yet, but previous versions were much further along (I restart whenever I make major changes)
