We aren’t going to see any real growth in the UK. That’s a huge problem for this Labour government.

Prit Patel.

A great meeting with my friend netanyahu and discussion about how we must stand together to fight for the freedoms and values our countries are founded on.

Israel is a beacon of democracy and freedom in the Middle East and our friend and ally.

What spending was announced / funded / committed to in the 2025 Budget?

It's a long list - and likely incomplete, so will add more if I hear of them!

+ recommits to £120bn public investment across the Parliament

+ doubling local roads funding - now over £2bn

Tory front benches equally furious at a tax on mansions and hundreds of thousands of kids being pulled out of poverty. Shameful stuff.

My attendance record in the European Parliament was the 4th worst out of 751 MEPs, yet I managed to turn up to vote AGAINST plans to tackle Russian misinformation.
Thankfully this is of no interest to the media.

On Truss & Kwarteng in ‘22. Allister Heath, Telegraph: “the best budget I have ever heard a British chancellor deliver". Alex Brummer, Mail: “a genuine Tory package elbowing to one side the Treasury's fiscal conservatism".
These men will now be paid actual money for their analysis of today’s budget.

Watched some of ‘Prisoner 951’. The dramatisation of Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe’s detention in Iran.

Got to the part where Boris Johnson says she was out there ‘training journalists’?

Which of course was completely false.

Did we ever find out why the fuck he said that?

Whilst I think some of the measures in the budget are really good…

The fact remains that growth is not going to happen in any significant way.

Brexit is the elephant in the room.

£100bn loss to GDP, every single year.

I realise that it isn’t in Labour’s hands to change this btw.

Market reaction so far is calmly positive. GBP up a small but significant amount vs USD, EUR, and basket. 10-year gilt yields down 6pts on this morning, 30-year gilts down 9pts. Traders seem to like increased headroom and midde-of-the-roadness of it all.

The abolition of the two-child benefit cap, which punishes children for their parents' circumstances, is the best part of the budget, potentially lifting almost half a million children out of poverty.

It may also be the part that comes under fiercest attack. So it needs celebrating and defending.
And the two child benefit limit is abolished. An enormous victory for those who have campaigned tirelessly for eight long years through successive governments. This will lift at least 450,000 children out of poverty. Fewer kids will be hungry. No more women forced to disclose their rape.

Labour aren't "refusing to tax the rich", Zack.
The top 10% of UK earners pay 60% of the total income tax burden, & 39% of the total UK tax burden.
They are now going to be paying extra charges on their houses if worth over £2million as well.

25% of UK taxes are paid by the top 1% (ie millionaires)
The 50 wealthiest families own more wealth than the bottom 50% of the population.

How can this Labour Government say this is a "cost of living" budget and refuse to tax the rich?

They care about protecting power and wealth. And cost of living is a buzz phrase for them. Dire.
