At some point I found a digitized version of Soemmerring's Handexemplar with marginal notes of "Ueber die körperliche Verschiedenheit des N***** vom Europäer."

On page XX of the preface, he added a note about Kant's 1777 race essay, which is not the least of why the marginal notes are interesting.
