Incidentally, if “rightsizing” is not just common corporate speak the University of Nottingham should copyright it. Might be onto a nice little earner there.

Stopped reading The Times (on Saturdays) when Jonathan Meades had to retire as restaurant columnist. (Stopped looking at the Critic when he ended his run there too). Doesn’t look like I’m missing anything. “Rachel Reeves wrong kind of chess champ”. My arse.

His books are fine but at the “cozy” end of the spectrum. Which is ok: you know what you’ll get. Other varieties available.

The belt noodle dish, a Xi’an Bjiang Bjiang special they recommend for vegans contains the entire Chili production of a small Chinese province and has the unofficial name “ Come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough”.
December 2, 2025 at 2:41 PM
I mean get yer chops round these vegan treats:

There have been crap covers since the year dot. But: there have been good covers too- cf Timi Yuro’s version of Thee Midniters “It’ll never be over for me”.
December 2, 2025 at 2:27 PM
Enough about non vegan food.

They offer convenience but you pay for it.

Batley going for “most Neil’s in an RL team” award there?
December 2, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Get off your standing order and send a correct reading in every month. Takes 5 minutes and avoids the problem.
December 2, 2025 at 12:36 PM

There’s a lot to criticise in the Castoriadis/Lefort version that I’m more familiar with but at least it didn’t involve pretending a version of barbarism was ok because it was “socialism”.
