Is this Great Expectations? I immediately thought that even though a) pip was not a street urchin, he was an orphan but his older sister and brother-in-law raised him, and b) the lady didn't actually pay for his education. But I immediately recognized it, lol.

It doesn't invalidate the story at all of gouging people without insurance, but what is going on with this "arrangement"? In Ohio someone can offer unlicensed, unregulated alternative to insurance if they call it Christian? I'm asking.

Love the thread but counterpoint: I transitioned without a diagnosis of gender dysphoria. I made the case (which was readily accepted even aside from informed consent)—the fact I had accepted my male body & identity shouldn't prevent me from transitioning. I had a great life living as a gay man
