On my yearly rewatch of It’s a Wonderful Life, and always enjoy seeing Washington, Missouri’s own Buescher Pipes making a cameo appearance on the wall of Mr. Gower’s Drug Store.

It feels hard to explain but I swear there was a time in fairly recent memory when sports media was not dominated by bros and hot take peddlers. We have to go back to that time.

As of now, Mizzou’s 2026 schedule includes:

-Two blood donors
-The withering remains of kansas
-Four games against teams in Year 1 of a new coach
-The three worst teams in the league from a year ago
-Three of their four toughest games at home

Lastly,

It’s fitting that this game is played on Thanksgiving, when everyone gets to spend time with their little brother

And yesterday, nearly 6 years after my first class, my group presented our capstone project to executives at Rapsodo. All that’s left to do is walk at graduation next month.

It’s been a long, winding journey, but I made it. Soon to be Mike Bauer, MBA.

I almost didn’t go back, even after life slowed down again. But I decided I didn’t want to come this far just to quit in the 4th quarter.

So, in the summer of 2024, I re-enrolled at SLU with one goal: Finish

My biggest regret of my undergraduate years was not studying abroad. So, in the summer of 2022, I did just that in Madrid.

Tapas. Sangrias. Plaza Mayor. Flamenco. Ritero Park. Real Madrid winning a trophy and the city going crazy. It was my first time out of the country. What a blast it was.

A couple vaccines later, after taking a temporary break from school, I started a new role at SLU, which provided me with a new pathway to finishing my MBA.

At the graduate level, transferring schools is really hard. Impossible in some cases. But I made it work, and resumed classes in 2022.

This photo is from January 21, 2020. This was the day I started my MBA journey at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Grad school was never in my plans, and I didn’t have much of a business background. But the opportunity was there, and I decided, “I’m gonna do that.”

“Anticipating the Arrival of our Soldiers, 1945”, which depicts a train of soldiers arriving into Washington after serving in World War II. Gary’s works covered a lot of time periods, but he always made sure to include his dog (front and center) in every painting

All else aside…

Man, after all these years, nothing beats a Saturday gameday. The tailgating, the atmosphere, the spirit, the postgame celebrations, all of it. You wait all year for the home slate, then it finally gets here, and after half a dozen Saturdays, it’s over.

Gary Pinkel announced his retirement as Mizzou’s football coach 10 years ago today. What a week that was.

A few days later, I got to cover what was ultimately his last win. Will always remember walking out of the media room and seeing Gary in the tunnel hugging his granddaughters.
