Consultation on this leads to delayed implementation due to scale of change required… etc etc

Oh yes, HMRC has already said they'll restrict this but I agree, sounds awful to implement…

"…to avoid circumvention of the lower limit for cash Isas … include charges on interest paid on cash … and tests to determine whether money is being held in “cash like” accounts"

I suspect even the traditional banks might be able to build it by then

Not really no - but I think it is a small lift for the more retail friendly offerings (e.g. something like nutmeg with their integration to chase) to add an easy journey to open S&S ISA and buy a "Nutmeg Low Risk Money Fund (Regular Income)" to "Avoid Cash ISA restrictions"… they 18months to build

This is fundamentally a UX problem though, no reason it couldn't be addressed if this drives demand.

You almost can, the biggest barrier here is the account UX and a bit of marketing education. A number of the newer fintech style brokers (e.g. Trading212) do exactly this - the UX is for a day trader investor but if you ignore the bumf it isn't far off - and an ISA isn't supposed to be a daily spend

These were both taken at a falconry event so “paid models” applies ;)

To be fair, from a human factors perspective I’d have questions about approval flows and things - not cyber so much as ergonomics, UX, and process design. Easy to blame an individual but rarely useful.

Not just Americans tbh. We offer people the ability to work 20 days in another country *but they need the right to work*. This causes no end of confusion. Especially for Brits who suddenly find out another reason why Brexit was a bad plan.

I dunno the phrase “that email was a waste of electrons” has been around for ages. A lot of slang is performative anyway so.. so what? So many real things to worry about…..
November 20, 2025 at 5:33 PM
It is just slang for electricity. Might be all kinds of real reasons to be worried but slightly stupid slang isn’t one of them.

Confiscating jewellery from survivors of a war zone makes you look like a fucking Nazi. And the obscene thing is, that is the intention. It's there to look appropriately harsh. Indecent. Filthy. A moral stain. And no-one of good character would have ever proposed such a thing in the first place.

There is no evidence that stripping refugees' rights one by one will have any impact on people crossing the channel.

Taking jewellery from refugees is akin to painting over murals for refugee children.

These repugnant ‘deterrents’ did not work for the Tories, and they won't work for us.

@lizzicollinge.bsky.social I hope to see you also objecting to this abject pandering to the far right.
