Parents of young adult children or people who have jobs with gen z colleagues (or rare Actual Young Ppl On here): I want to interview someone who's done any kind of government employment scheme (whether apprenticeship or other) for a book (fiction). Would appreciate any tipoffs!

If you're looking for Christmas presents for someone aged about 9 to about 14, my book is set in winter. It's snowing! Inside Stitchwort house we have log fires, cosy blankets, tea and hot buttered toast. There's also a mystery curse, a ghost or two, and a whole family with magical abilities 🕷️❄️🕸️❄️🕷️

What a chaotic but happy writing year?! Three books, three feisty heroines and a little news to come… I’ve loved writing all the madcap Fairfax adventures this year and can’t wait to share Jo's moorland chapter in Feb *26! 🪭✨

Wednesday research for a certain scene in Josephine’s story aka #ThePropositionoftheSeason coming February ‘26! How do you go about visualising characters in period settings?

you know you're a writer when your 'I'll read that soon' pile has morphed into an entire bookcase

I still browse in bookshops but another mode of serendipity for me now comes from podcasts - I hear about books I would never have considered, and definitely never heard of. Eg listening to a history podcast I found out about a mid 20th century travelogue that I now have in my hot little hands
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 555:
Don't use descriptions of weather as backdrop or set dressing. Write how it affects the way your characters interact with their world: how it changes their clothes, their behaviour, their mood, their perception of sounds, colours, light. Make it count.
