I mean, what is the difference between me opening a coffee shop, then after a month, mastercard saying "oh, our card doesn't support coffeine related purchases, so we'll just keep this, tyvm, kaching"??

So lets say you're successful, and a load of money is paid, then Stripe decides you can't have it.

So what happens to that money? Do Stripe then refund it to the original supporters, or do they simply shout "ToS violation" and report it as profit?

If the latter, how is that legal?

We are heading towards a convergence, where the most statistically likely episode for every series will be the same plot, just with different names and different random inconsistencies. Although Sarah Chen will be in them all, regardless.

"a U.S. tech billionaire" ???

Gee, I wonder who that might be. Good job the reporting is keeping that person totally anonymous and there's no way to even hazard a guess there ...

Is that where - when they go to hand you sweets - you chloroform them and stuff them in the boot?

WTAF? Cancelling your account doesn't cancel your subscription? So, what, I can remove my account and you can just randomly charge me in the future if you decide you're going to "upgrade" my non-existent account again??

And just found this little nugget:

"Refund notice: Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription"
October 21, 2025 at 11:22 AM
Oh, immediately got a bot response back with info on how to delete my account, so I guess they don't even bother to read their own support tickets ...

Descript: 0/10 for support
October 21, 2025 at 11:20 AM
WTF descript? Is that where we're at now? Are your profits falling and this is the solution, or are you just really bad at knowing what your customers are already paying for and what payment method they chose? Because either way, it's a pretty terrible look!

Aussies now all wondering how they can sabotage this ... ;)

I understand what this was and yet seeing the words "tea" and "microwave" in the same sentence is having a very bad effect on me...

Basically, Uber was assuming I was a tourist because Swedish account+card, and tried to scam me. Mate booked for me in the end.

Driver said he got £9.50 of the fare, which likely wouldn't have changed if I'd paid £26!

If I'd had mobile internet the first time I read Eco's "Focault's pendulum" i'm not sure I'd ever have finished it!!

If you go to the list and click "subscribe", it will ask you if you want to mute or block everybody on the list.

I just block this list (which this account is on ...) :)

You're really tying yourself in knots trying to justify it, huh? I don't waste time on bad faith discussions, so bye.

They exist, but desalinatoon plants are expensive and not energy efficient. It is not currently a good viable option for getting potable water.
September 10, 2025 at 10:01 AM
It does go into the air, but since >70% of the planet is ocean (salt water), plus rivers leading to the ocean, when it comes down again, most of it ends up in the ocean, which means it is no longer in our drinking water supplies.
