It wasn't de-aging but Skycaptain and the World of Tomorrow using footage and CG to have Laurence Olivier in the film feels like the origin of so much of this stuff, even if other films came before this that used footage of an actor after they died (Bruce Lee in Game of Death, Bela Lugosi in Plan 9)

So I knew the 7 years thing from seeing the dev say it in their announcement post on here. I just follow lots of devs here and mastodon, follow lots of people on Itch and check that feed a lot. It’s dated now but I wrote about my process here
