Oh neat! The Cuban ambassador is coming to campus to give a talk, and along the way adding some Spanish to the campus #LinguisticLandscape!

And a nice spot for donuts nearby!

Seoul looking quite lovely this morning, with some wonderful older brick buildings on the left there

Interesting anti-drug message here warning about the use of ADHD medication to aid studying, a part of the bus and health #LinguisticLandscape that shows some of the concerns and worries circulating in Korea these days . . . .

8. Another big poster for ChatGPT from a local telecom provider, I think

More lobster collection imagery! Lobster men too! And Santas!
Very interesting . . .

A screenshot from Hanwha Ocean's Instagram account, which I think was shared elsewhere too, showing some marketing efforts by Hanwha in the race to sell Canada 12 new submarines. Something quite interesting happening here with all this public marketing.
Hope more journalists discuss this.

And here is The Lobster Collection poster, with quite a Christmas feel to it!

LOB LOB LOB
It seems the Christmas Lobster is making its way to Subway Korea this winter and adding a LOB or three to the sandwich #LinguisticLandscape!

Honey Sweet Omelette
꿀 고물렛
Some serious creativity in the culinary and #LinguisticLandscape here with some wordplay in Korean with 'sweet potato' seen in the above image and some fun with omelet as well, I think. Didn't try it but maybe in the future!

Interesting banner promoting a cyber university focused on foreign languages, mentioning how languages can make a career, with a very interesting image of people behind, all representing language learning in some way, I presume, and all of this is part of the #LinguisticLandscape of education!

Since there is a bit of speculative fiction discourse in the air this evening on Bluesky I thought I would not contribute to that by just saying this was a very interesting novel in that sub-genre of post-acceleration scifi and that I have really enjoyed getting back into reading for pleasure.

The entrance, with a lot of pages on the wall

Another view of the fainting couch nook. I am looking forward to checking this place out again

Interestingly, the cafe uses Chinese characters in its name, as with this neat poster
November 15, 2025 at 3:04 AM
This is some pretty old and neat technology here, amd adds some style and atmosphere to the cafe
November 14, 2025 at 12:32 PM
The lighting from below kind of hides that this is all in the basement, and creates a pretty airy atmosphere

I do enjoy my cafes with a fainting couch, ethereal lighting, and anachronistic technology, as found in this absolutely lovely basement cafe located down a narrow and unassuming staircase . . .

CHEFFLÉ
Light but never slight

Some wordplay and more in the university branded convenience store #LinguisticLandscape!

Movie night on campus! And food trucks! Yum!

1. Tomorrow is the big college entrance exam in Korea or KSAT or suneung so naturally there are posters up in subway stations directing test takers to test locations, listing which exit to take and how far the school is from the exit. All part of the KSAT #LinguisticLandscape . . . .

Seoul is putting on a fall show today
November 12, 2025 at 6:42 AM
The election for university president is coming up and so we have some campaigning on campus these days, but what I find interesting here is the amount of English on these posters, adding a bit more of something to the campus #LinguisticLandscape . . . .

'Bonjour' in the ice cream shop #LinguisticLandscape of Seoul, courtesy of Baskin Robbins, with some interesting French background art, all related to this special Golden Praline Butter ice cream. I wonder how widely known 'Bonjour' is in Korea? Pretty widely known, I'd guess.

Interesting to see a note about classes being available in English but written in Korean here. I often see notices about services available in English written in English and I'm a bit curious about these practices more generally. Also, people versus a cat or dog in the figures is interesting!
