My prevailing thought is that 20 votes is an insane amount.

I agree with all of this strongly, but having said that, my country does none of this and I drive a Ford Fiesta
Europeans don't need ugly American cars. They have governments that are forward-thinking, which provide buses, subways, and high-speed trains, unlike America, which would rather order another aircraft carrier it doesn't need than help its citizens get to work.
