Long Beach has a wireless battery bus charger installed in the pavement for a short circulator route. I asked someone who worked for the city about it once and they said "that thing never worked"

Kind of reminds me of 800 Pacific in Long Beach, built in 1921

Almost had it

It’s funny how after several days of people nervously posting about whether or not Newsom will sign SB 79, the best insight we’ve gotten is from Gavin himself on a Fortnite stream

In contrast, two newer buildings have flat roofs but no marked landing pad. For the Figueroa Eight tower, the environmental documents prepared for construction said it would have a landing pad, but it was constructed without one.

The less stringent landing area still needs to be marked as a landing pad, and it looks like Wilshire Grand is an example of this. Not sure if I trust a random Wikipedia editor, but seems like they may have met the other requirements but still agreed to install this one.

Also idk why they cut it back from Santa Fe. Would have been helpful even if rail to river took another route

Also here’s how the transfer at Aviation/Century would have looked:
May 11, 2025 at 1:20 AM
Here is the LA city council motion demanding Metro build a new station instead of using Aviation/Century as the transfer station.

If only
May 5, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Hard to do much when city council says no parking can be removed and the budget probably won’t support a full median rebuild. But I wish they would do something like the EmX BRT in Oregon to keep the medians nice and green

Huge props to the Wikipedia editor who mentioned the music video

The Irvine connect shuttle is much better, just doesn’t run on holidays or course.
January 2, 2025 at 12:48 AM
That is a hot take. How about the Irvine-Corona tunnel?

I would hope that they just build the deck wide enough for platforms, or ideally have the platforms already there but with no canaopies, stairs, or elevators so they can figure that out later.

Out of all the unfunded Olympics projects that need to happen, they really need to do this.
December 10, 2024 at 3:41 PM
Sure but you can have a meeting in a fake subway car
November 20, 2024 at 3:55 PM
At least you can still get out to the middle of nowhere in Lake Los Angeles without a car. Will even be a little easier when Metrolink starts running more frequently soon!

They did keep studying the “pink line” as a branch of the Purple Line Extension when that EIR process started many years ago, but that didn’t get very far because of the cost and operational weirdness.
September 6, 2023 at 10:35 PM
Yeah, the alignment for the Purple Line Extension is very much different than the original Red Line construction that would have built a good chunk more of the Wilshire Subway. It didn’t make a ton of sense with how indirect the route was, but there was lots of political stuff behind it.
