Mourning the days when all we talked about was font choice, reference styles and glam humping.

Yes, the Jan-Feb Council dates will be pushed back until all study sections have met & ICs can create playlists. There are so few Council members left, this shouldn’t be difficult. NCATS, for example, is down to 1 member, unless they are allowed to keep the 2 who should have rotated off on Oct 31.

Really? How many members were typically on councils in the before times? I guess OMB makes the funding decisions now anyway 🙄

I have heard through the grapevine that the January Council will be rescheduled
November 25, 2025 at 9:04 PM
What about the January councils? A lot of these rescheduled study sections are for end of January. Will they add another council, or shift the January council meeting to accommodate?
November 25, 2025 at 8:53 PM
But I suspect they may add another council to deal with this, but others would know better.

Same boat. Just got notification that my app will be reviewed the day before the council meets. Not sure what that means but, honestly, I'm not sure it really matters. I'm expecting more or less total paralysis at the NIH for now.

But wasn't FY25 basically FY24 levels?

I'm quite sure the NIH position will continue to be "the president has requested a 40% cut so we're going to act like that's the reality"

The same thing happened during the 35 day shutdown. We rescheduled our late October meeting for Dec 19-20. We did 50 To 60% ND. It was a pain but not impossible. The 70% ND seems reasonable because reviewers can always call for discussion. IOW this is really not unprecedented.

NIH is chaos. USDA is chaos. It looks like we put all the effort into wrapping a grant in proper shape and form, and now they've extended the deadlines.

I just don't think a conversation with the PO changes much, at least based on my experience.

That's the giveaway that a total noob wrote this 🙄

Even in a fully functional NIH, which this clearly is not, getting the cancelled fall study sections done before council seems almost impossible.....unless drastic measures are taken.

You think they'll come to their senses here?

NIH has never changed deadlines before - just allowed late submissions (eg, could allow PIs to use Continuous Submission deadline). Sit tight, leave your app there - none will be withdrawn. The loss of institutional expertise is obvious in this “Notice” (& in more ways than updated deadline).
November 15, 2025 at 1:31 PM
Won't this just bleed into the Jan/Feb deadline (i.e. next cycle)? That will make the next round a total and absolute nightmare.

Plus there is likely another shutdown coming at the end of January.
