Under what pretense?

Plagiarism is a professional standard, not a crime.

Members of Congress are NOT equipped to judge it.

What in the world do they have to do w/the pres’t of a private university?

This is the right bullying educators & educational institutions as a tool of intimidation. Period.

I'll be posting my movie recommendations. #1: "Ennio," a documentary film about Ennio Morricone, is so moving, educational and enjoyable. He is an Italian maestro who elevated movie soundtracks to an art form. Even if you've never heard of him, you would recognize his music. #movies

Happy holidays to everyone. If you celebrate Xmas and have bought a tree, check to make sure there's no baby owl in it!

Stefanik crucifying liberals as antisemites. The media is loving it. Just like in 2016, the liberal media follows the narratives set by GOP. Remember H.Clinton's email server scandal? GOP is so adept at warping the reality. Trump will win in 2024.

Started reading Three Worlds: Memoirs of an Arab-Jew by Avi Shlaim. Shlaim uses his family's story to depict multiple identities that peacefully co-existed in the Middle East before the rise of nationalism in Europe & delves into what happened to those identities as nationalism spread.

SU offered Mosab Abu Toha, currently in Gaza, a visiting professorship, to get him and his family to safety. I was very pleased about SU's decision. However, IDF confiscated their passports & they can't leave. Please write to NY Senators! www.change.org/p/an-urgent-...

I just read about efforts to make "ecocide" punishable in Hague. How much damage wars and the military-industrial complex inflict on our planet? Huge & unreported. The carbon footprints of the wars in Ukraine & Gaza must be immense.

We are more moral and humane than humans. Humans are so violent, vengeful and deceitful. The word "humane" should be changed to "canine." Just my two cents, says Roxy.

Spain has seen its share of battles over religion and identity. Catholics pushing Muslims out and forcing Jews to convert if they were to stay. But despite these battles and violence, Arabic & Jewish cultural and genetic heritage is still present in today's Spain. It gives you some perspective.

I didn't know that the Spanish "ojalá" comes from "inshallah." It makes sense; sounds similar. I always assumed that the arabic word was the equivalent of " si Dios quiere"--a phrase my grandmother and aunts--all very religious Catholics--often used. I had never realized that ojalá was related!

A consistent theme of the politicization of Florida higher ed under DeSantis has been graft for political cronies: his anti-vax Surgeon General was given a tenured professorship & second salary. But he does not turn up for work and no-one will hold him accountable.

The shooting of three Palestinian students has renewed my concern for the safety of our Arab students. They faced Islamophobia before Oct 7. Some of them told me about being ignored in restaurants etc. Most are international students and I want them to have good US experience 😢

I'm very pleased that our university has offered protection to a Palestinian alum detained by Israel as a scholar at risk. NYT carried a very depressing article about how Israelís and Palestinians stopped seeing each other as humans. I sincerely hope that peaceful coexistence is still possible.
