Thank you so much. I try not to go on because so many of my friends on here have health issues/ are disabled. Today was one of those ‘wow that’s a lot of pain’ days where it was so bad it was shocking. G basically got the liquid morphine out to stop the yelling/crying. Doing better now thankfully 🫂

A hello from one brown pupper to another! This is Maze and she lost her bestie Sorrell the cat last year.

It’s gone hand in glove in an uptick of racism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia too. Which is unsurprising even as it makes a person want to pull their hair out.

Absolutely and ignoring the fact of who and how and why it has relevance for other people. It’s more of the same - throw around a catchy phrase that sounds like it means something important and blame the genre rules. It’s the 1, 2 *blows raspberry* of ‘look at me I’m different’ we’ve seen before.

I’m preaching to the choir here but they throw around terms like cultural relevance like they’re a benchmark romance is failing to reach when the truth is romance never tried to, has always been more subversive than they think and relevant to a massive audience.

cis so in that sense romance doesn’t have cultural relevance. The reality is we’re relevance is exactly what it’s always been a space for women, LGBTQA etc to find escapism but also (and it’s one of the reasons the HEA does matter) to see happiness on a page for a protagonist who is like you. I know

Im never clear on what they mean by “cultural relevance”. Is that what happened with 50 shades? I’d be inclined to describe that as a moment that had a lot to do with sexism (ohhh women read sex). Or is it to do with being taken seriously by ‘the canon’? Which is still overwhelmingly male str8 and +

Folks who stick around and engage, though?

Oof.
