Even compared to the more serious Disgaea games, aka Disgaea 5. The labyrinth series (Refrain and Galleria) are much more serious and darker while still having small moments of humor

More mature themes, story beats, etc which I personally love.

I will say the tone in the Refrain is very different from Disgaea even though they share a similar art style
