I know we’re focused on the #StrangerThings kids being too old, but I’m mostly struck by how several of them are just reciting their lines without any discernible performance?

Apple's refusal to have #Pluribus press stills up before I have to edit @donnadb.bsky.social's reviews? Annoying.

Getting to take screenshots that are better than the press stills will be anyway? Opportunity.

In the first four episodes of its second season, #FindingMrChristmas saw its openly gay contestant emerge as a frontrunner, which raised the question: could Hallmark's Mr. Christmas be gay?

The answer from this week's episode probably won't surprise you.

But given the realities of Hallmark's competition series, was it ever really alive?

Me every time I click on the tickets link in @rianjohnson.bsky.social’s posts pretending something would have changed between now and the last time I checked and there was nothing within 90 minutes.

Sisu 2 has the video game sequel problem: the first movie ended with Sisu with all of his powerups, but then 3-act structure requires him to start from scratch in the second movie. First act struggles pacing-wise because of it, and while it escalates to a sisu-ably wild place, it SHOULD go further.

New newsletter up at Episodic Medium: The built-in fanbase for #HeatedRivalry was always going to support U.S. distribution.

Only the viral social content its Canadian distributor has been posting could have convinced HBO Max to launch it with 9 days' notice.

I'm mid-newsletter on this, but I'm so curious what kind of traction this gets given HBO Max now has—checks notes—9 days to promote this specifically to U.S. audiences.

I regret to inform you all that Episodic Medium may not be a safe workplace because Sam is voluntarily watching Entourage for the first time while covering #ILoveLA and I allowed that to happen. My bad.

There's just such a disconnect between AMC having to create a queue system for Taylor Swift's $34m weekend and being business as usual for the sequel to two of the highest-grossing films of all time, y'know?

AI in higher education is very simple: the neoliberal demands of the marketplace require institutions to do the song and dance, and it is left to professors to try to mitigate the damage as the only actors who care about actual student learning.

Episode 3 of PLURIBUS has me quoting Warren Zevon and speculative fiction from 1935. It's like they made the show just for me (so I wouldn't be surprised if your mileage varies). My review at Episodic Medium for subscribers: www.episodicmedium.tv/review-pluri...

Is there another set of sports rights NBC can over invest in to fill a Voice-sized hole? Or is this still basically the best they can hope for?
A TALE OF TWO REALITY SHOWS

In A18-49, DWTS notched its best rating for this point in the competition since 2017.

In 2017, the antepenultimate DWTS notched a 1.45 A18-49. This Tuesday, it did a 1.3--down about 10%

In 2017, THE VOICE did a 1.95 A18-49. This week, it did a 0.24.-- down 88%.
DANCING WITH THE STARS on Tuesday notched its second-best same-day viewership of the season, up vs. last week and behind only the Halloween ep. It would've set a season best without the whole YT dispute, I'm guessing.

The Enthusiast Press absolutely has its place, but it is 100% a corruptive influence.
One more thing I would add: There's a popular idea that "Media wants negative reviews because that gets clicks." Not to overgeneralize but for a good while a lot of incentive has been the opposite, toward ingratiation: "We like that thing that you like! We're OBSESSED with ___!" &c
My ears were glued to Wesley Morris and Kelefa Sanneh on the nice-ification of music criticism. This is a thing I think about a lot lately with TV criticism, although the reasons/dynamics are different. Maybe inside baseball, but you follow a critic on social media! www.youtube.com/watch?v=zerX...
