I'm writing a modern day Dante's Inferno, with a neurodivergent, aro/ace MC named Maggie (25). She's traveling through Hell with her Grannie to record the updated punishments, and relieve the redeemed from dole.

The story explores familial & religious abuse, grief, and general mental illness

I'll spare y'all the body horror this time
When Maggie is in Limbo, celebrating Litha with the witches, she gets her fortune read using lavender petals! They're mixed in with a cup of coffee for her!
And she gets lots of stew while she's in Limbo to recover too, the witches are so sweet 🥰
Last question on our "society, broadly" theme for #JanuaryWorldbuilders. What food or drinks are popular in the society you've been talking about? If can be an MC's society, or any one you have an interesting answer for.

I'd probably try to get Maggie into solitaire first, because it's a good distraction for me personally.
Then probably spirit farer in an effort to help her process some feelings of grief.
Other than that, probably legend of zelda

Hypothetical today! If you were trying to get your characters into videogames, what genre/game would you start them out on?

Would it be similar to the genre you write them in, or completely different?

Maggie's biggest fear is abandonment after the way her father and stepfather treated her. Couple that with every important family member dying in rapid succession and she's absolutely terrified of being alone.
It's one of the things that her and Pazuzu can relate to the most about each other
January 15, 2026 at 1:29 AM
Maggie is really terrible at assessing her flaws and how she comes across to others (especially her partner Roe)

She beats herself up over every little thing, assumes that everything she does is wrong, or that anything that goes wrong is her fault, and doesn't understand why people are nice to her
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Let's talk self-reflection. How good is your character at assessing their flaws?

Do they usually have a good sense of how they are coming across to others?

If not, which way are they usually wrong?

My #WIP is called "The Infernal Rose" and is the first in a series loosely named "Hell is Under Construction" and follows Maggie (25) #LGBT #ND as she witnesses the first 5 circles of Hell, ending outside The City of Dis.
Human depravity has inspired many new delightful punishments

The sinners are all dressed in color coordinated jumpsuits. So far she's only encountered those from Lust (Red) and Gluttony (often these are gone by the time one turns into a ghoul), and some glimpses of Treason (Blue)
#JanuaryWorldbuilders! This week is about broad societal questions. What kind of clothes or accessories are worn in your MC's society? Feel free to post pictures of your characters if their clothes are a good representation of what is worn! It can be for everyday use or for special occasions.

I just paid attention to the news happening around me, and needed an outlet to deal with the stress. I feel like that's the only way to describe it.
So PDfiles and 🍇 ists are in a blender, racists are being burned with glass sands, etc.
#QueerPrompts January 13: What inspired the injustices in your story's world?
January 13, 2026 at 12:06 PM
When Maggie goes to the circle of Gluttony she sees sinners who have turned into ghouls. Cerberus' rotting corpse is being devoured by these ghouls upon entering the circle. They are also living within the carcass

So there's a lot of gag reflexes in the circle of Gluttony
January 13, 2026 at 12:04 PM
Belial is a greedy tyrant. While Maggie is trying to find innocent people in hell, Belial believes that all human souls are his (bc he thinks we're all worthless like him)

So he steals souls from Heaven, and from across the rings of hell to stuff into "his"(Mammon's) colloseum
Howdy, #JanuaryWorldbuilders! What's plaguing your fictional world's society? (Remember, just pick one or use the MC's society if you have several). Is there classism? Racism? Misogyny? Queerphobia? Is the government run by greedy tyrants? Or are things going relatively okay right now?
January 13, 2026 at 1:10 AM
The demon Belial is the main antagonist. He's most often depicted as a close "acquaintance"(?) of Satan.
However he describes Maggie as his "favorite child"
Context: "Child of Belial" means someone who is worthless and Belial considers every human his child.
Which is why he wants to take over Hell!
January 13, 2026 at 12:59 AM
This all depends on the demons that you're interacting with.
Pazuzu finds it rude that Grannie does not like or trust him, understandable considering he has now saved her granddaughter's life twice. But he also believes that humans in general should be more grateful for his contribution to society
#JanuaryWorldbuilders! Tell me more about your fictional society. What are some gestures or actions that are considered good etiquette? If you're writing about non-Earth societies, do they have any such actions/gestures that we don't use? Alternatively, do they have *rude* gestures?

The best advice that Maggie ever got was from the horseman of Conquest. It wasn't steering her towards Christianity, he told her to seek out community and medical support for her anxiety and depression.
Because that is much better than bedrotting and falling into complete despair

Title idea that came to me while I was writing notes for Greed:

Hell is Under Construction: The Infernal Rose

Maggie is usually a total goofball (much like myself) and often made people happy by showering them with love and small presents (like random cards or thrifted figurines that remind her of someone)

But now she's anxious, depressed,& therefore awkward & cagey, & thinks her presents are wastes of $$$

What's your character's weird meter like?

Do they encounter strange (for their world) things? Is ordinary for them very different from ordinary for those around them?

What's the weirdest thing they've seen?

The fifth circle of Hell is Wrath, which is where Maggie will meet the Horseman of War, who will kindly ferry her across the River Styx. Also where she will come across some rather vengeful ancestors of hers.
January 11, 2026 at 4:52 AM
Well in Hell, stuff like that doesn't really matter. The most depraved sinners aren't human after they've been in their circles long enough (transformations can begin within 1 hour to 1 century depending on the punishments)

So what I'm saying is, everything is androgynous until they say otherwise
Good day, #JanuaryWorldbuilders. This week I'm asking q's about the fictional societies in our fantasy/sci-fi worlds. If you write about many societies, pick one you think has an interesting answer, or the MC's society. How are gender roles handled in this world?
January 11, 2026 at 4:50 AM
Maggie's position in Hell is ✨The Poet✨, basically the one going to document the souls in hell and the goings on of the demons (like Dante and Milton) she's the first one who breaks conformity and leads repentant/undeserving sinners to the gate to Mount Purgatory to eventually go to heaven
#JanuaryWorldbuilders, tell me about your MC's (or another important character if you don't do MCs) role in society. Are they upper or lower class? What job/tasks do they do as part of this society? Are they even a member of a society?
January 11, 2026 at 4:47 AM
Maggie didn't get the chance to come out to her mother and grandmother before they died. However, she told her younger sister Ana that she's asexual and aromantic and in a queer platonic relationship on National Coming Out day, and Ana came out as Pansexual
#QueerPrompts January 9: Free Friday or do you or any of your characters have a coming-out-aversary?
January 11, 2026 at 4:43 AM
Absolutely not. Maggie is struggling with massive amounts of debt thanks to several unfortunate circumstances and a rather crappy stepdad (still have to figure out all the details, it's a first draft)

So somehow, Hell is almost a welcome relief after all the mental strain

Despite having an easy life with loving parents, Nix doesn't feel content because he's always looking for his soulmate. He feels incomplete without him. We later learn Max felt this same way before meeting Nix.

Well here's the basic hierarchy in my Inferno
The Four Horsemen
Lucifer
The Kings (in appearance order): Belial, Leviathan, and Satan
The Princes (in appearance order): Asmodeus, Beezlebub, Mammon, Belphagor
✨The Poet✨
The demons: Pazuzu/Lamashtu etc.
Greek/Roman/etc characters
Sinners
#JanuaryWorldbuilders

The Greed Wars marked the dismantling of Aloutia's hierarchies. Before then, you had kings, nobles of various ranks, upper class commoners, and lower classes, then peasants. No slavery, though some places were about to attempt serfdom until the Kingeater paid them a visit...
Welcome to the second week of #JanuaryWorldbuilders! The theme of this one is SOCIETY. Again, relatively broad for now. We'll delve into more weeds later in the year. Today's Q: Talk about social classes. How are they handled? Do they have hierarchies? Nobles and commoners? Or is it classless?
January 9, 2026 at 12:15 PM
Maggie and Grannie met Pazuzu outside of the circle of Lust. He used to create the winds of the hurricane that would blow the sinners around the circle. (My own addition, not in the original Inferno)
However when Asmodeus was given the blueprints for The Blender, he no longer needed Pazuzu
January 9, 2026 at 12:10 PM
Just vibes here, going to talk about ghouls

In Gluttony the sinners are all starving, and eat the scraps of flesh that fall from the Blender in Lust to satisfy themselves.
But they are all in an old fashioned Diner and pay for their "food" with the vices they had in life.
