With Trump it’s impossible to calculate with precision at any moment the precise mixture of moronism, mendacity, and malevolence he’s displaying but you can always be sure all three traits are always actively in play.
I'm a broken record, but: there's no indication Trump understands what a trade deficit is or how tariffs work.
The presumption is that he's just lying about both, but that only helps him slip nonsense into the discourse when the nonsense goes uncorrected.
