80 percent!
An astonishing 80 percent of the Louisiana's death sentences between 1976 and 2015 were later reversed.

A judge recently vacated the conviction of Chris Duncan, who had been on the state's death row for decades.
He’s Been On Louisiana’s Death Row for Decades. A Judge Just Vacated His Conviction.
Chris Duncan’s longtime claims of innocence were boosted by the discrediting of bite mark analysis, and by recent reforms now under threat from the state’s Republican leadership.

Currently the social penalties for playing content on your phone in airports without headphones on are not nearly harsh enough

I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

WOW. A federal judge says he's going to issue a Temporary Restraining Order requiring ICE to make changes at the Broadview facility in Chicago, a facility that until January was only for stays under 12 hours "absent exceptional circumstances," but has become, in Judge Gettleman's words, "a prison."
U.S. Robert Gettleman is now giving his thoughts. He says, "I think the evidence has been pretty strong that this facility is no longer just a temporary holding facility. …

"It has really become a prison."
DOJ's Jana Brady steps up next but says she'll largely "rest on our brief that we filed."

She wants any TRO to not "interfere with the executive branch."

Brady turns to the claim that there were 150 people in Gonzalez's holding cell. Gonzalez tells her the cell "was packed."

Brady: "Do you agree that you were speculating b/c you did not count them?"

Gonzalez: "Yes, but there were a lot of people."
