Sumire hesitated, looking a little like she was debating the possibility of just flopping back onto her bed, so Ren stood and held a hand down to her. “We’ve faced down scarier gods,” he said. She let out a slightly startled laugh and caught his hand, letting him pull her to her feet. “So, be a little more like Alice?” she suggested. Ren took a moment to envision Sumire standing across from her parents and doing the equivalent of yelling “No, mine!” at the top of her lungs, and couldn’t quite manage to completely strangle a horrified laugh. “Not like Alice, then,” Sumire said as she stepped gingerly towards the door of her room and her watching father, a strained note to her pleasant tone. “I’m not sure Alice is the best choice to emulate, in this instance,” Ren settled on. “May I suggest Ella, instead?” She twirled in place, shooting him a brief startled look, before letting out a quiet laugh. “Grace and beauty?” “Kindness, and the inner strength to endure,” Ren corrected, before shrugging and adding, “And, sure, grace,” as she did another little twirl in place.

Writer KJ Twitter | magatsula Tumblr | supremesanada AO3 | yosgay hey, i’m kj! i’ve been writing for persona since way back in the p3 and p4 days, and the world and characters have always stuck with me. ren and goro’s dynamic in particular has been a joy to explore and tease apart from the beginning, and i’m excited to have the opportunity to put them both in more situations. my favorite authors are chuck palahniuk, gillian flynn, and shirley jackson. i love a good mystery surrounded by off-the-wall descriptions and prose, and it's a huge inspiration in my own writing. Across the way, something catches Ren’s eye. A copy of the ferris wheel that’s been shrunk down and scribbled with loud patterns and bright color. He points with his chin. He has to laugh a little when he says it, but what the hell: “How about that one?” Akechi tilts his head the way a curious dog might. With pursed lips and a furrowed brow, he considers this like he considers everything. He looks it up and down, finger to his chin. He could be auditioning for the role, how well he sells it—but it’s so strangely natural. You’ve got the part for life, kid; Detective Number Two. A smile creeps onto Ren’s face. He pictures Akechi in the grocery store, magnifying glass out, to pick out a single apple for his lunch. And Akechi opens his mouth; looks at Ren, then stops up short. “What?” The way a smile can catch like the flu, man. Face reddening like you’re holding in a cough. “Nothing,” he says, and it’s just one grin for another. Akechi rolls his eyes, still. One hand on his hip, he allows, “All right then. Lead the way.” Yeah, it’s surrounded by merry-go-rounds and cartoon animals. And sure, they’re the only ones on line over four feet tall. Still—Ren can’t help himself. He gives Akechi a serious look. “You nervous?” “Oh, yes.” He nods, earnest. Ren tilts his head. “Are you planning to comfort me, Ren?” “Born ready.” Akechi smiles, warm up to his eyes. “I’ll hold you to that.”

A WIP. It reads: "Amamiya was at the feet of his bed, his nervous hands making noise from the stuff within his trunk. He glanced at Goro before looking down once again. His cat was out of Goro’s sight, but it made its presence known by meowing. “I know, I know,” Amamiya replied to the creature as if he could understand it. With a loud snap, he closed Goro’s trunk and moved next to him. Goro had to bite another snarky comment. It was amazing how his mind responded to urgency. “Okay, I got it. Now what?” “Give me that,” Goro said, taking the patch and opening it. It looked like a white bandaid made of cloth, a blue healing solution glowing in the middle of it. He then looked at Amamiya. “I need your help on this. I need you to pull the knife out.” Amamiya’s eyes were about to jump from his sockets. “What?” “Just do it.” “But—” “Do it!” Goro hissed as Amamiya pulled the dagger from his abdomen, still he pushed amidst the pain to place the patch against the wound, and pressed hard. The adhesive was supposed to adhere to the skin to have as little blood loss as possible, but Goro had never used them and was not about to test their efficiency on a stab wound. After a long minute passed and his guts didn’t spill from below the cloth, he laid back on the bed and breathed heavily. Fuck, what an ordeal."
