I'm so glad it wasn't just me that was bothered by this. I didn't vote either for the same reason.

Imagine the outrage that would arise if a politician proposed to remove cars worth less than £38k from the roads, even though they are currently being driven and maintained legally. Yet, when it's real people being discussed, it's treated like a thought experiment instead of a genuine threat.
