Started as updates from an artifact from a significant South Side club that has been spared the scrap heap. Now mostly other Woodlawn/Chgo history. Jazz & minutia. Infrequent posts.
Caboose at the end? Prob a shoving platform, spot for the crew/workers to ride while moving/switching out rail cars

Have you ever seen Eddie Blazonczyk play bass? He didn't actually pluck the strings w his right hand, he just used his left hand on the frets.

On brand for Rothco, because they make all that tactical gear and army/navy supply stuff that you can get at the surplus stores.

Oh! I see this was the home of one of the Italian Village owners who recently died.

I'm sure all of the interior was done at the same time as the addition, since very little, if any, of it is original.

Looking at it closer, I think quite a bit has been changed. Doorway, window above - my $ is that it looked closer to the buildings on either side of it in the 2014 street view. Still, wanton destruction of a showpiece.

Wow, the additional floor in the Second Empire style is something. Wonder when that got added - probably why it didn't make the survey.

IIRC they also did the original On Leong building around the corner on Cermak. Not as much terra but it's shaped like a dragon

So many places need to do it how they're doing it

more: after the fire, he almost moved it to other locations incl. Lincoln/Devon (lease fell through) and taking over the Amy Joy Donut shop on Touhy/Milwaukee (too expensive). In the end he rebuilt on the same spot.

Found it in a law book. Fire Oct. 1959, insurance adjustment issues caused to remain closed until he could rebuild and reopen there in 1964. An aside, he also owned Beefy 19 over on Western Ave.

The sidewalk weeds near the counter make me think it has been closed for a while at the point the '63 photo was taken
