The CIA scrubbing the World Factbook from the web may not seem like a big deal in itself, but it's a symptom of something larger: the Trump administration's war on government usefulness.

@ishaantharoor.bsky.social I’m so sorry to learn that you’ve been laid off. You (and @roncharles.bsky.social) were the only reasons I hung on to my subscription. You’re indispensable on the Trump administration’s foreign “policy,” and you’re an excellent writer. The Washington Post is a carcass.

Canadians could channel their feelings about what's going on at the Post not into Bluesky posts but writing their MPs about acting on foreign ownership, telling them to get off X and hold press conferences when they have something to say (and be questioned after), keep their promises on the CBC...
I understand Americans are upset about the Washington Post - but their new smaller newsroom will have about the same number of editorial as all of Postmedia's 130 print and digital news titles combination.

Canadians slept through this consolidation, foreign ownership, gutting.
There's a petition to the House of Commons to introduce stricter rules to prevent foreign entities from holding controlling interests in Canadian media.
Long overdue for govt to act & require Postmedia to have Canadian ownership and/or sell off parts to local buyers
