Writer and enforcer of collective bargaining agreements for a labor union. I’m into home diy renovations, cities that prioritize pedestrians and cyclists, and too many podcasts about tech & . Husband & dad. He/him.

📍Federal Way, WA. STL born and raised.
Something was “upgraded” at Valley Communication’s Dispatch Center, and ever since, all agencies dispatched through them have disappeared from @pulsepoint.bsky.social.

For a couple weeks, a message was up saying it was being worked on, but now there’s nothing. Big bummer if this access goes away. ☹️

This new signal gets an F from me. It has a zig zag pattern, the time to walk is around 10 seconds, and you have to wait TWO LIGHT cycles with a pause in the median to fully cross.

Can’t make the drivers wait.

I’ll collect my bet winnings. Federal Way says they will have it operating by tomorrow AM.

Also, this is the first new signal city-wide since 2016! Almost 10 years without a new traffic signal.

CM Honda also had a line of questioning last Federal Way Land Use and Transportation meeting on temporarily closing a street for the farmers market asking “but where will people park?”

Send her an email, especially if you live in Federal Way. Here is what I sent her after hearing her comments.

Less than a week until the Federal Way @sound-transit.bsky.social Station opens and a signaled pedestrian crossing at the corner of the transit center and dangerous 320th isn’t done. Progress on it has crawled for months.

Unsure if it’s a Federal Way or Sound Transit to-do, but my money is on FW.

Later this evening at 10:46pm a driver in a Jeep hit a person in a wheelchair in this same intersection. I believe they were transported to the hospital.

This is one block from the Federal Way transit center and new light rail station.

It's more chaotic than this, but here is a glimpse of what the intersection usually looks like every day for about 20 minutes during dismissal. It is terrifying to see the daily close calls between cars and kids when I do pick-up, and all of us, especially our kids, deserve so much better.

Some credit to FW: Today a city traffic engineer, school principal, resource officer, and lots of cones were out to make dismissal safer at my kid's school after weeks of pressure & outreach. I've seen SO many close calls. More is needed, but this was nice to see (I am sure many parents are pissed).

An especially infuriating story from @marisakabas.bsky.social this morning about a Mass. child being abducted by ICE.

For anyone not outraged, as Marisa says, we should be fighting for accountability through due process and not from lawless secret police.

The photo for this project is the same pedestrian path I have contacted the city no less than 20 times over the last year because it’s blocked by a car which forces kids from the elementary school around the corner to walk in the street.

Full send to the ceiling on these upper cabinets. The backsplash installer did future owners a solid by leaving space to lower them, but what were they thinking installing these so high AND taking the listing photos from a low angle making them look even more ridiculous.

The solution to this at the Federal Way transit center was to completely demo it and make the new bus loop with no overhead structure except for small bus shelters. 😢

Hate to be a killjoy, but I don’t think @afacwa.org crews need more drunk and high passengers onboard to deal with as a result of a company advertising how to get high while flying.

New Federal Way Transit Center bus loop review:

Pros: Less bird poop and real-time departure screens.

Cons: Multi minute walk from the parking garage to the bus bay vs ~30 seconds before. Small bus shelters vs a GIANT roof that sheltered everything and everyone in a region that is known to rain!

GSA wants to sell the 37-story Henry Jackson Federal building in Seattle, one of the largest buildings they want to close. An IRS call center is the biggest tenant serving AK, WA, ID, and OR, in addition housing the IRS criminal investigation unit, VA, and Coast Guard.
