David Graeber's Debt: The First 5000 Years (2011) is witty and eye-opening. Sounds like a simple concept, but debt is actually not 'debt' as we think of it in everyday language - especially when we take a birds-eye and look at colonialism, states, and the origin of monetary systems. What a mess!

Friends in Southern Hungary: I will talk in Szeged on Thursday. I have increasingly become interested in poppish ways of using heritage - and the philosophical problems lurking in that practice. I will mostly concentrate on built heritage, but even Keith Richards memes will be touched upon.

Taiteilija Konsta Klemetti kuvasi minut pyhimyksenä. Onnistui mainiosti! Jouduin tasapainottelemaan lasin päällä, mutta oli hauskaa. Tämä on ilmeisesti laajempikin sarja ihmisistä pyhimyksinä, mutta taisin olla ensimmäinen.

I seldom drag my bio mass to the touristified historical culture-dead center of Helsinki, but Mireia Saladrigues's exhibition at Gallery Sculptor was worth it - and her life work is just to the point of the problem area with studies on marble fetishism and heritage metaphysics. Recommendation!

Barbara Day's The Velvet Philosophers (1999) dives into the history of Czecholovakian underground universities during the Socialist regime. Incredible stories and facts - from Derrida's imprisonment to the amount of leaders (e g. Havel) who studied UG so to speak... A great read!

Apfelstrudel and architectural kitsch in Vienna. Damn I want to learn to bake these! The taste of the sauce is also on a psychedelic level at Café Landtmann. Had forgot this treat.

Fancy places at the University of Vienna - where SLS's seminar with Nordic Studies is just beginning. Making new friends!

I had some great chats about Western/Eastern philosophy with Yuriko Saito and Eva Man Kit Wah. I gained valuable hints on where to head in my readings! And a strong suggestion to come to Hong Kong for a visit. Let's see...

Yuriko Saito talking in Warsaw. The way she bridges European and Asian philosophical traditions is amazing, and I have a feeling she might become someone in the history of philosophy, although right now only a margin in arts and everyday studies reads her.

Varsovaa kahdella kuvalla. Kaupunki on hipsteröitynytkin, mutta sitäkin enemmän juppiutunut ja suurkaupunkimaistunut sitten viime näkemän. Elisa Di Stefanon johtaman EVA:n arjen estetiikka -kollokvion pääpuhuja on Yuriko Saito. Itseni pitäisi tänään vetää osallistujille hikipaja aisteista.

Pasolini was murdered 50 yrs ago. His influence is special. Audio works, animations, comics study his original thought. Books on his work dive into unsolvable cultural issues. Hard to digest! I dream of a book with interviews - contemporary artists on PPP as inspiration. Finnish/English. Publisher?

Erilainen.

Koira kuuroutuu. Tutkija voi tilata paperilehden. (Koira ei herää.) Huolellisen tutkimuksen tulos: ankkalampi-osioista huolimatta HBl on parhaiten taustoitettu (/asiantuntijavetoisin), kosmopoliittisin. Peittoaa vaihtoehtoverkkolehdetkin. Tervetuloa taloon, höblä! Kulttuurisivujakin pystyy lukemaan.

This Ubuntu for Warriors (2021) by Colin Chasi gives a good introduction to the concept and its martial dimensions. Chapters on e.g. history, Steve Biko and the Mandelas. Surprising read.

Just dived the first 60 pages into Santiago Zabala's brand new Signs From the Future: A Philosophy of Warnings - which reads e.g. Heidegger's and Arendt's lifeworks (correctly, of course) as warnings. What a pleasure to find this perspective!

En ole dekkari-ihminen, mutta Indrek Hargian jankrossahtavat Melchiorit toimivat. Apteekkari Melchior ja Olevisten Kirkon arvoitus (alkup. 2010) on kiehtova. En niinkään juonesta jaksa jännittyä. On vaan kiva immersoitua vanhaan Tallinnaan. Seuraavan luen kyllä eestiksi verestääkseni kieltäni!
