yeah, bernie and ZM should be/are really exciting for the left because they show how much leeway you have to still be "ideological" if you can also establish independence from "the democrats." just a question of how to establish that independence. (in some ways obama 08 was this too!)

like Bernie Sanders got there by doing #3, Bill Clinton is #2, and I think Donald Trump is probably the defining version of #1.
they all work, and obviously you can mix and match in various ways, and it's a matter of a politician figuring out which kind they are and how to leverage it

as binaries: "ideological" vs "non-ideological"; "ideological" vs. "moderate"; and "ideological" vs. "independent." i think all three of these are tightly linked in voters' minds, but the last one is the most important to swing and independent voters

i.e. "ideology" as coherent & articulated political philosophy (socialist, capitalist, liberal, etc.); "ideology" as placement on an 'objective' left/right spectrum or compass--and, i think this the one most worth disentangling--"ideology" as adherence to (perceived) party line

arguably "LLMs can now write novels as well as human authors" would be good news because it'd suggest that there was enough demand for genuinely great novels to make it worth training an LLM to do so. "ha ha."

the item here on "f.o.b. voice" sort of gets at the same dynamic. the big LLMs are very good at producing glib, knowing, smooth prose in the same way that "the magazine industry" was very good at producing glib, knowing, smooth prose. but if there was demand for such prose we'd still have magazines
