Yes but we’re also coded in “big trucks are great” from unique geography, marketing, regulations that exempt larger vehicles from emissions standards, and their higher profitability for car makers (they cost almost the same to make but sell for much higher prices)

Ford has been pretty public that F-150 Lightning for example was built as a stopgap. Their “ground up” platform promises lower assembly cost, streamlined design, the works. I think the reality is no one could compete with Tesla , then BYD, on cost for years and this is what we get.

The car makers have been agonizingly slow but the way they’ve been building them they can’t produce cheaper models. Regulatory creep and consumer expectations of bigger, more capable vehicles (and the much publicized range anxiety) haven’t helped.

I have a hard time believing Apple Maps EV routing will work as well as the fairly mature and proven Google system for instance. Know several people with Fords who have tried it and found it lacking. I’m sure plenty of OEMs will find value in still offering CarPlay as option though
