The Corbyn platform had a look at this, and I have not heard a political operative mention it since anywhere in the world

Remember when primitive generative compositions were considered the bleeding edge of the avant garde for like 50 years. At least that shit's finally over

Certainly—police requesting the Social Services Minister involve themselves in the judicial process is flatly a breach of the separation of powers. More broadly, I don't believe cutting payments for recipient conduct to be constitutional as the vast majority of sanctions are plainly a punishment.

You'd call this cheap populism, if there were any evidence anyone supported it. They way they fought for this is the way they won't fight to implement the Robodebt Royal Commission recommendations. They voted against an amendment to implement RC rec on 6-year time limits on debt recovery to pass it.

Many legal & welfare groups fear this amendment will punish victims of domestic violence, particularly First Nations women

Gallagher says Centrelink has "a history of engagement" w/ these victims & will provide info to prevent them being harmed by these new powers

My goodness

Minister Gallagher refuses to answer basic questions from @davidpocock.bsky.social about whether they got legal advice that giving cops these powers to cancel welfare payments is constitutional

"This is extraordinary that the government won't even confirm"
