I'm kind of disappointed that #DeathByLightning didn't show Guiteau's trial and its aftermath, because I would have loved to see this bit in it:

Four days before his execution, Guiteau penned a bizarre little play in which "The Almighty" confronts Guiteau's enemies and damns them. "The Almighty asks the newspapermen, 'Why did you hound my man to death?' 'We did not believe he was your man.' 'No excuse. Go to Hell.'" The Almighty interrogates President Arthur as to why he did not pardon "my man Guiteau." When Arthur replies that he thought a pardon would deny him the presidential nomination in 1884, the Almighty tells Arthur, "No excuse, you ingrate! Go to Hell. Heat up Mr. Devil!"

Hot take of the day: a worrying number of leftists are actually just Evangelical Christians with the serial numbers filed off The world is sinf--a capitalist hellscape but we just have to wait until the Second Coming-- the Revolution happens when everything will be magically fixed. Any attempt to make actual progress makes you a lukewarm Christian-- liberal anything less than the Apocalypse-- the Revolution (which we are forever waiting for btw) is completely useless. Also consuming certain media or makin certain lifestyle choices is sinful and unchristian-- bad praxis

BLACKTHORNE: Tell Toranaga-sama that the theme of the entire bloody series, even from the first game, was that hard decisions, costly decisions, must be made for a grater good! Even though this was mostly glossed over and elided in the second game, there is a direct thematic line that can be drawn between sacrificing your squadmate on Virmire and sacrificing EDI and the Geth in the series finale. The whole bloody point of the Destroy ending is that you are once again sacrificing someone you care about - perhaps even sacrificing yourself! - for a greater purpose, perhaps the only worthy purpose! Also, it has been long established in canon that the Reapers cannot be controlled, so the Control ending is a direct contradiction of literally everything we've seen in the cursed series! And the Synthesis ending was a ham-fisted attempt for Bioware to have its thematic cake and eat it too, in a futile attempt to head off the rage of series fanboys! MARIKO: The Anjin wonders if you would be willing to reconsider your opinion on the ending of Mass Effect 3.

You know, I remember reading this exact same opinion in 2002, only it was about Democrats being cowardly in the face of terrorists instead of Trump. Now, maybe it's just me, but if your opinion in 2025 is indistinguishable from a right-wing xenophobe's opinion in 2002, there's a problem here.
