now, blanket tariffs (as Trump campaigned) should absolutely not be used as negotiating leverage nor nurture a non-existent industry (at least at the scale necessary), such as low-cost, low-skill MFG

we need to focus on high-skill MFG, the rest can be fanned to developing countries and whatnot

of course Biden sustained tariffs for the BEV industry, Tesla et al have been far surpassed by Chinese manufacturers and would otherwise be eaten alive. ideally, tariffs should be primarily used as a tool to nurture domestic industry.

for sake of argument, w/in the context of tariffs on China, how do you expect we can match the low cost of their labor force, particularly concerning low-skill MFG, and in tandem with mass deportation?

that’s ridiculous, tariffs as a bargaining tool would be an undue risk on the American people.

it creates unnecessary economic uncertainty, at worst, and positions the US as diplomatically weak, at best (if merely threatened)
