Anyway, Hal Steinbrenner should be embarrassed. He probably isn’t, but he should be. There are things that matter more than money, and that should especially be the case when you have functionally unlimited money. If you don’t genuinely want to compete with the dodgers, don’t own a baseball team.

When you ask what most any contemporary billionaire cares about now, you’d be hard pressed to answer except with “more money” or, with a select few, space travel. What an uncurious and forgettable lot. Art, culture, sports, and more. You could make your mark. It’s mystifying not to care at all.

Part of this is probably just wealth, don’t get me wrong. But there was a type of uber-rich person that was obsessed with making their mark on society. Carnegie hall, rockefellers founding the Cloisters museum and donating the land for fort Tyron park around it. George Steinbrenner just…being 😆.

Watch clone wars, rebels, and other things that deploy Lucas’s story in a world grounded by real emotional stakes & you see its potential. It’s a leadership lesson. Have enough humility to know you’re not good at everything. Let people say you’re being stupid. The result will be much, much better.

Iron grip over production/editing means so many cringe things end up in the final film that anyone with real power outside of Lucas’s orbit would be like “…why? We’re cutting this.” Weird noises by palpatine, fighting on totally unnecessary heat resistant droids that float in lava? Why? WHY?

He’s clearly a bad director of actors. He has an incredible cast constantly making bizarrely overwrought or flat choices. Very rarely does the tone of the performances show a cohesive arc, over the course of the whole film or even single scenes. Given the people involved, Lucas is to blame.

The man cannot write dialogue to save his life. Characters speak in some combination of unearned cliches and bizarre nonsequiturs. Emotional payoffs often make no sense. You are left constantly wondering why characters are thinking what they’re thinking or doing what they’re doing.

Agree but New York doesn’t require burden shifting. It’s an option but alternative dismissal for failure to state a claim is acceptable (state courts have confirmed), so on that logic 12b6 should do the trick (some SDNY judges have followed this logic)
December 27, 2025 at 9:07 PM
True, but a lot of SDNY judges have (rightly) pointed out that California’s statute is structured very differently, so it’s not necessarily the case that refusing to apply one will result in the same result for the other. My own view is if you can apply the statute w/o procedural conflict, do it.
December 27, 2025 at 7:49 PM
Exactly this. I do defamation cases in ny and it’s a mess in SDNY. Second circuit hasn’t ruled on new York’s anti slapp statute, and district judges are all over the map about whether it applies and how. It’s attracting more of these nonsense cases the longer they don’t universally apply it.

Sadly no! But a fine collection of Feist, Wolf Parade, Phillipe B, and more!
