This is an interesting problem to consider when it comes to the diaspora, who often won’t have easy access to a broad community, and so can fall into insular patterns. I think I may need to bother @mglass.bsky.social for her thoughts on this 😅

I do think a lot of the correction comes naturally with Irish, since more than any other language I’m aware of you’ll be mirroring constructs back while asking and answering questions

Haha, we’re in a similar boat: everything I know about printing I learned about in the context of the 1500-1800s, and I nearly drove a printer to madness by using 400yo terminology when talking about the layout of a magazine I was editing haha

I find this fascinating because I’ve thought a lot about how I wanted to correct my kids (PhD in English and did two classes on writing pedagogy during my coursework), and what I settled on was simply including the thing they make the error on in my response to them in a natural way

Hmm, sounds like there’s an opportunity for a pen pal group :)

Goodness yes this—I’m in such an awkward spot right now, stuck in that exact language learning doldrums. God bless @richieconroy.bsky.social for doing his part to fill that gap. I’ve also been reading this book of late, which has also filled that gap well www.mayobooks.ie/Short-Storie...
