Friday, @lynnae.bsky.social & I got to spend most of the day at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, including returning to the Caravaggio painting where we got engaged almost 20 years ago. It was a real treat to visit again together and have a day full of art!

As if on cue, these maples were still holding onto their crimson leaves, aflame in this morning’s sunlight.

As a leader at a museum, very encouraging to hear the Pope extolling the value of cultural spaces.
“If a city is alive, it is thanks in part to its cultural spaces.”

“Cloud service providers… will have to generate an additional $2 trillion in annual revenue by 2030 to afford all the infrastructure. That is more than [5x] the global market for software subscriptions. In 2024 Amazon, Alphabet, Apple, Meta, Microsoft and Nvidia combined made less than $2 trillion”

"Fannie’s ethics and investigations group received internal complaints alleging senior officials had improperly directed staff to access the mortgage documents of James... investigators were probing to find out who had made the orders, whether Pulte had the authority to seek the documents..."

Remembering my grandfather — my best ancestor and relentless cheerleader — on Veterans Day. He served in the Air Force between WW2 & Korea. He passed on this date in 2004, and I still miss him.

Coming back to this, because I took a break from my desk to spend a few moments with one of my favorite “dispatches from real places,” an early Rembrandt masterwork that so clearly shows Caravaggio’s influence in its composition

The fair thing for us to do is
just keep on giving up
more and more stuff we want, unilaterally,

Best thing I’ve read this week. A fullhearted defense of real, human art.

“The truth is I had come looking for this. That my days and maybe yours too all feel terrorized by the synthetic, by impostors, by preening frauds spouting homilies… I had come looking for dispatches from real places.”

Evening dog walks might be fully dark now, but at least I got this cool photo of @lynnae.bsky.social looking like a phantom under a streetlit tunnel of fall colors.

I love Boston. I've made it my home for 13 years -- even if I haven't yet been able to *buy* a home. I can't stand the mentality in so many Eastern MA suburb and exurb towns that amounts to "if you weren't born here, don't come here. I got mine, you can't make me change, screw you."

Same. She’s been curled up next to or on me for about 3 hours now. I both love it and actually need to get up, but she’s more important, lol.
