Typical Japanese Army officers of the prewar era. They wear the Type 5 (Shogo) uniform, introduced in 1930, a modified design from an earlier 1911 model. Their swords and peaked caps were standard issue, though younger officers tended to raise the crown in a saddle style.

1933 - Japanese Army officers toast their success in the Chinese provience of Jehol/Rehe as part of Operation Nekka. They wear the ryakubo field cap for the first time, which would become the standard Japanese military cap by the 1940s.
